The Lower School Principal is charged with the comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in the Lower School. The Lower School Principal reports directly to the Head of School. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Staff Development

·       Monitors and observes instruction to facilitate continuous growth in professional skills of faculty members (providing written and oral feedback)

Curriculum Development

·       Directs the continuous assessment, revision and development of the Lower School curriculum

·       Coordinates the alignment of curriculum with current best practices, standardized testing, and consumer needs

Student Supervision

·       Monitors and supervises student behavior on campus and administers discipline when necessary

·       Works with Lower School faculty to establish and administers a plan to insure that student behavior at school and at all school functions is acceptable

·       Recommends to Head of School any new policies or policy changes that need to be presented to the Board of Trustees

·       Is responsible for the preparation of Lower School Student Handbook with input from the Upper School Principal, Counselor, teachers and Head of School

·       Creates Lower School class rolls considering suggestions from teachers

·       Monitors Lower School students’ records to insure accuracy and completeness

·       Develops and implements a plan to insure that parents are informed as to the progress or lack of progress of their student

Other Administrative Duties

·       Interviews new Lower School faculty candidates and provides input to Head of School

·       Conducts annual Lower School faculty evaluations

·       Coordinates teacher/parent conferences

·       Coordinates admissions process with the Director of Admissions

·       Develops Lower School Master Schedule

·       Arranges for substitutes for Lower School faculty

·       Serves on the the Administrative Team

·       Supports the Mission of Lee-Scott Academy

·       Any other appropriate duties requested by the Head of School
