Lee-Scott Academy

Head Football Coach/Teacher

Job Description

This position is a full-time position that will be combined with additional administrative or teaching responsibilities. The head coach is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

·         Works with the athletic director and assistant athletic director in all aspects of the program

·         Follows and maintains knowledge of all AISA and LSA policies and procedures in regards to athletics

·         Instructs and teaches skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in football

·         Plans and sets-up practices and games

·         Develops, implements and maintains appropriate strength and conditioning programs

·         Assesses the needs and maintains the equipment in the weight room

·         Ensures the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, and to maintain and update inventory

·         Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and supplies

·         Arranges game transportation for all athletic events

·         Adheres to all financial policies of LSA

·         Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner

·         Ensures that proper forms for eligibility are obtained, current, and filed with the assistant athletic director

·         Ensures that all student-athletes practicing or playing have been cleared through the Athletic Director

·         Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship

·         Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games, and ensures appropriate behavior

·         Checks and secures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms, and other athletic facilities after games and practices (Head Coach may delegate this responsibility to an assistant coach)

·         Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times, including inspection of facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns

·         Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to

·         Coordinates with the local press and reports game scores

·         Assists in the selection and training of assistant coaches

·         Assigns duties to all assistant coaches, including pre-season and practices, and communicates these duties to Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director

·         Interacts with students, faculty, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials as an ambassador of LSA and the athletic program

·         Professionally represents LSA and AISA in interactions with students, parents, community, staff, and the media

·         Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required

·         Attends professional development and staff meetings, as needed

·         Supervises athletic events as needed

Essential duties of this position are included. Employees in this position perform some or all of the tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

·         Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree; State teaching certification in subject area

·         Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; contributing to building a positive team spirit.

·         Coaching Skills: Demonstrated ability to successfully coach, lead and/or motivate coaching staff and students.

Overview

In consultation with colleagues in the middle school, upper school and specific department and other members of the Arts team of teachers, the Band Director is responsible for teaching a full load of classes.

Key Areas of Responsibility

-  Successfully plan, organize and teach band classes (5th Beginning Band, 6th Intermediate Band, 7th Intermediate Band, 8-12 Advanced Band)

-  Lead summer band rehearsals in preparation for marching band/football performances

-  Successfully conduct summer band camp

-  Prepare marching field for practice

-  Attend all football games and successfully direct the band (transportation, food, performance, etc.)

-  Plan, organize and prepare for annual Holiday Concert and Spring Concert performed each year

-  Plan, organize and prepare for church performances

-  Prepare for pep rallies

-  Demonstrates an attitude of flexibility with regard to curriculum decisions in order to meet the instructional needs

-  Instructs and encourages individual students; establishes goals for individualized students and small groups

-  Manages the class and ensures engagement and discipline

-  Communicates with parents or other interested parties

-  Collaborates with colleagues and seeks feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement

-  Reflects on instructional practices to meet individual professional development goals

-  Assumes personal responsibility for student achievement

-  Actively participates in professional development, grade level, and department meetings
