MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in guidance and counseling and course work in psychology, testing and measurement, sociology, and education.

2.       Must be eligible for a valid teacher's certificate, with endorsement in counseling and guidance and meet applicable federal and state certification/qualification requirements for the position.

3.      Proficiency in oral and written communication skills

4.       Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.

5.     Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate scholar learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondences, and/or financial information.

REPORTS TO:                 Principal

JOB GOAL:    To help scholars overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible men.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.            Demonstrate support for the school and its mission, vision, goals, and priorities.

2.            Develop and implement an effective middle/high school guidance and counseling program.

3.            Define and interpret the guidance and counseling program to scholars, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members.

4.            Implements the Middle/High school counseling and guidance program curriculum.

5.             Guides and counsels’ groups and individual scholars through the development of educational and career plans.

6.          Consult with small groups and individual scholars

7.            Consult and collaborates with teachers, staff, and parents in understanding and meeting the needs of the scholars.

8.             Refers scholars with problems and their parents to appropriate specialists, special programs, or outside agencies.

9.            Participates in activities that contribute to the effective operations of the school

10.         Plans, evaluates, and revises the counseling and guidance program

11.         Pursues professional growth

12.         Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Counselors

13.         Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws.

14.         Coordinate the registration of new scholars and provide them with an orientation to school procedures and the school's various opportunities for learning.

15.         Assist scholars in developing a middle and high school curriculum plan and provide a method for documenting and reviewing the plan annually.

16.         Assist in the placement of individual scholars in appropriate educational situations.

17.          Coordinate the procedure for the security and maintenance of scholars' educational records.

18.          Develop a method for recording scholar grades, attendance information, and other pertinent educational data.

19.          Coordinate the school's testing program.

20.        Prepare informative reports and materials for principals, teachers, scholars, and parents concerning the results of the school's testing program.

21.          Assist teachers in identifying and interpreting problems that interfere with a scholar's ability to learn.

22.         Provide individual and group counseling opportunities that may lead each scholar to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.

23.        Establish effective working relationships with employers, agencies, and other institutions that may be of use to teachers, parents, and scholars.

24.        Assume responsibility for coordinating appropriate follow-up activities.

25.        Assume responsibility for individual professional development and for attending appropriate professional meetings.

26.        Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisors(s).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year set according to proper placement on current salary schedule and school calendar. Exempt employee.

●     Designs and leads 6-12 district level professional learning

●     Provides differentiated coaching to teachers and leaders based on individual instructional needs as identified through multiple data sources (informal classroom observation, student achievement, formative assessment, etc.)

●     Assists in the implementation of the components of the Continuous Improvement Plan that are directly related to instruction and/or technology

●     Identifies and empowers teacher leaders

●     Models the appropriate use of instructional best practices and technology to enhance and extend instruction and student learning during co-teaching, coaching cycles, leading professional development, etc.

●     Models confidentiality within coaching relationships

●     Demonstrates a positive and technically competent set of public relations skills including oral communication, written communication, and listening skills in group and one-on-one situations as necessary

The Director of Technology is charged with responsibilities that encompasses a wide-range of areas such as supporting the following: 

  • Technology infrastructure of the school 
  • Installation and maintenance of technology  equipment 
  • Faculty, administrators, and staff

  • Academic needs of students; and

The Director of Technology directs all aspects of technology for Lee-Scott Academy.  

The Director of Technology reports directly to the Head of School.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serves as network administrator and supports infrastructure including all hardware/software
  • Serves the help desk by providing troubleshooting support for administrators, staff and students 
  • Provides maintenance and support for all connections; i.e., switches, routers, wireless, Ethernet, security cameras and DVR, bells, intercom system, telephone system, and audio/visual equipment
  • Provides maintenance and support on all devices for faculty, staff and students 
  • Maintains inventory of all technology equipment for Lee-Scott Academy
  • Develops and implements a technology plan for the school by assisting in the integration of technology applications across the PK - 12 curriculum and identifying specific hardware/software application needs of the school
  • Maintains, manages and monitors technology budget
  • Supervises and coordinates outsourced support staff as needed in order to maintain systems
  • Provides support for the electronic student records system
  • Communicates information about upcoming new trends in technology
  • Supports the Mission of Lee-Scott Academy
  • Any other appropriate duties requested by the Head of School
