REPORTS TO HEADMASTER

DUTIES:

·       Uphold Monroe Academy’s philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures in working with students, parents, co-workers, and administration.

·       Supervise all activities of the band during school and when traveling.

·       Maintain band class throughout the school year, regardless of absences due to spring sports.

·       Make regular reports to the Band Boosters on the purchase and repair of instruments.

·       Maintain order in the band room and office, which includes overseeing the use of the telephone and other equipment or instruments.

·       Allow band students, when possible, to participate in athletics.  Work out practice schedules with the coaches.

·       Organize and conduct a spring concert each school year.

·       Organize a beginner band for upper elementary and high school students.

·       Perform other such tasks as may be assigned by the Headmaster.

REPORTS TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

DUTIES:

·       Lead Monroe Academy in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures adopted by the Board of Directors.

·       Direct the daily operation of the school through the supervision of staff, coordination of activities, and setting the tone for a quality educational program.

·       Manage personnel affairs including securing staff, developing contracts, answering questions related to salaries and benefits, recommending continuance, dismissal or discipline of staff, etc.

·       Authorize contracts to agencies or persons outside of school.

·       Authorize all purchasing.

·       Monitor annual budgets.

·       Establish clear lines of authority and assign personnel.

·       Meet regularly with administrative team to insure coordination of programs and problem resolution.

·       Establish and implement procedures for the admission of students.

·       Provide long range planning.

·       Develop and disseminate school policy manuals for staff, parents, and students.

·       Coordinate recruitment program for school.

·       Provide staff professional development, in-service, etc.

·       Provide leadership in obtaining and maintaining accreditation.

·       Be responsible for supervision of staff, improvement of instruction, selection of curriculum, administration of disciplinary procedures as appropriate.

·       Resolve problems in coordination with school staff.

·       Carry out all mandates of the Board of Directors.

·       Attend all Board meetings.

·       Oversee all special projects, such as building programs, special services, student trips, concerts and programs, staff convention trips, etc.

·       Lead faculty meetings as needed.

·       Interview prospective parents and students and meet with the Board of Directors.

·       Regularly observe and evaluate classroom teachers.

·       Oversee the development of the master schedule and individual teacher and student schedules.

·       Perform such other duties consistent with his/her professional competence as may be assigned.

·       Insure all teacher certificates are kept up to date.

·       Represent MA at all AISA functions and be involved in committees as needed.

·       Attend extracurricular activities as available.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month contract.

EVALUATION: In accordance with provision of the Board’s Policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the academic quality for the entire student body.
  • Teacher supervision but not limited to, ongoing classroom observation and feedback, mentoring and equipping teachers, regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings, assisting in the articulation of educational goals, oversight of regularly scheduled staff meetings, coordination of teacher training, oversight and guidance related to teacher/parent communications.
  • Lead the cultivation of a warm and orderly culture and community (students, parents, and staff)

  • Conduct rigorous evaluations of teachers and staff and provide impactful developmental feedback.
  • Provide oversight of all administrative aspects of the school including but not limited to managing school budgets, ensuring campus wide safety, facility management, staff recruitment and development, student recruitment and enrichment, and other administrative activities.
  • Ensure effective ongoing communication between all members of the school community (headmaster to teacher, headmaster to families, teacher to families, etc.).
  • Ensure coordination of all parent volunteer involvement and activities.
  • Supervise and develop the school faculty, and school support staff.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with community stakeholders, including participation in local civic clubs and activities to promote the school throughout the region.
  • Support a relational approach to student discipline, in accordance with school policy ensuring that student discipline is addressed in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Attend extra-curricular events.
  • Attend instructional leadership meetings, serve on committees as needed, and be a visible presence in all areas of school life.
  • Assist with accreditation processes and other strategic planning initiatives as needed.
  • Hire strong talent for all school positions (faculty/staff) who fit with the mission.
  • Adhere to the bylaws, policies and procedures, and to all laws that govern the school and its actions, and operate within the budget allotment for the school.
  • Works daily and diligently with the assistant head of school to ensure all academic goals are achieved, as well as day to day operations of the school.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in education from an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Teaching experience with a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Leadership experience in education, private school preferred.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness and is teachable and open to constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrates a high level of energy, a strong work ethic and resilience.
