Job Description:
Houston Academy is a premier independent, college preparatory school located in Dothan, AL.
Houston Academy is searching for the Lower School Learning Specialist. That individual is
responsible for the planning, designing, execution, and assessment of the Learning Services
Program in the HA Lower School. The Lower School Learning Specialist is a twelve-month
position. For a candidate with the requisite credentials and interest, this position could be
expanded to include the title and responsibilities of the Director of the Learning Services
Program at Houston Academy.

Educational/Professional Requirements:
● A degree in speech and hearing or special education with a willingness to obtain
training in order to teach students with dyslexia;
● Strong leadership skills;
● The ability to analyze, interpret, and apply psychoeducational testing;
● The personality traits of enthusiasm, creativity, imagination, and a strong
desire/ability to collaborate across content areas; and
● An inspiring, innovative, and charismatic teaching style
Lower School Learning Specialist Job Duties:
● To provide direct and indirect instructional support and resources to students and
teachers in a positive environment;
● To create and share action plans for students with faculty who work with that student
and update that plan, as needed;
● To participate in campus and community events;
● To keep abreast of the latest research and trends in teaching and learning,
paying particular attention to research on students with learning differences;
● To complete other activities as assigned by the Head of School; and
● To support the school and its leadership at all times.

Salary will be commensurate with degree level and teaching experience.
