Pike Liberal Arts School is seeking a Head of School to provide the necessary leadership to articulate the vision for the future of the school beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. The Head of School will inspire, lead, and direct employees to achieve the highest levels of excellence so that each student is provided with a challenging, meaningful, and rewarding education. The Head of School will oversee and administer the use of facilities, property, and funds with maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and an ever-present, overriding awareness of and concern for their impact upon education of individual students.
Essential Job Functions:
- Administer, as chief school executive, the development and maintenance of a positive educational program and academic interventions designed to meet the needs of the school
- Formulate school objectives, policies, plans and programs including a multi-year plan for growth in student population, curriculum improvement, and facilities improvement, and student/parent satisfaction
- Supervise, directly or indirectly, all employees of the school
- Recommend for appointment, election or employment, professional personnel to be employed
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget for adoption by the Board and administer the budget as enacted by the Board, acting at all times in accordance with legal requirements and adopted Board policies
- Represent the school before the public and establish and maintain a program of public relations to keep the public informed of the activities and needs of the school, thus creating a wholesome and cooperative working relationship between the school and the community
- Supervise the effective implementation of all constitutional or statutory laws, state and charter regulations of the Alabama Independent Schools Association (AISA)
- Act on own discretion in any matter not covered by Board policy, and reports such action to the Board as soon as practicable and recommends policy to provide future direction
- Summon employees of the school to attend such regular and occasional meetings necessary to carry out the educational programs of the school
- Recommend to the Board for final action the promotion, salary changes, demotion or dismissal of any employee
- Assign and transfer employees as the interest of the school may dictate, and reports such action to the Board for information and record
- Establish and maintain efficient procedures and effective controls for the expenditure of school funds in accordance with the adopted budget, subject to the direction and approval of the Board
- Review with staff all curriculum guides and courses of study on a continuing basis
- Recommend, for Board approval, the annual school calendar, all courses of study, curriculum guides, textbooks and time schedules to be used in the schools
- Make the administrative decisions necessary for the proper function of the school
- Use prudent judgment and discretion for student safety to determine school delays, cancellations and early dismissals resulting from adverse weather conditions or emergencies
- Approve flyers and other requested materials to be distributed to students
- Develop and/or delegate the development of administrative procedures for the effective operation of the school
- Oversee the operation of athletic and co-curricular programs
- Work closely with Athletic Director to ensure compliance with AHSAA rules and regulations
- Directly supervise and evaluate all staff
- Develop and implement school professional development plans aligned with school improvement plans
- Direct regularly scheduled staff meetings
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board

QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s degree or higher in a field related to education required. A PhD or EdD preferred with experience in education administration, curriculum development, and capital funds campaigning
- Classroom teaching experience preferred
- Computer literacy
- Experience leading and managing people to ensure that targeted goals and initiatives are achieved as a headmaster, assistant headmaster or other junior to top level education administrator preferred
- Ability to enhance overall educational programs and services for all students by building a consistent curriculum structure for effective execution and sustainability
- Ability to increase capacity, accountability, and efficiency for improved effectiveness among administrative and professional personnel
